I started this blog because many of the Roving Reporter Rants articles were contrasting different extremes of Christian
activities with certain Sado-Masochistic practices.
I intend to discuss these things without condemning either
practice. If a person wishes to whip himself as a form of self-cleansing, so he can expiate guilt and purify himself and more closely approach his God - that`s fine with
me.
The Flagellents have been part of the Christian spectrum
almost from the beginning.
Certainly by the year 1000 A.D. Christians were dragging heavy wooden crosses through medieval villages and whipping themselves or thrashing others. These people weren`t kidding! I mean, of course they weren`t. They truly wished to cleanse themselves and get ready spiritually, because, "The End was at hand."
They didn`t want to go into everlasting fiery damnation
after death. They wanted to get closer to their God and His
heaven before they passed on.
And you can`t blame them, given some of the more imaginative tortures those Christian monks and nuns dreamt up - while they had nothing but time on their hands...
Well, most people wished to avoid such tortures...
But, of course, there were the aberrant few... who wanted
to jump right in and get right at those tortures as soon as possible!
I`m saying the aberrant "few" because I`m being politically correct.
I don`t think the aberrant were "few" at all. With such barbaric notions in their heads, spurred on by the sermons of some really twisted priests, and the colourful hell that one would go to, if one were to engage in any of those forbidden
sexual entertainments - I`m sure many people would have
become aberrant, twisted, sexually strange - deviant and
all those other exciting things.
It was not the aberrant few; it was the aberrant many!
We've got to remember, back then in the middle ages, they didn`t have television. Think of how perverted our society would be if we didn`t have actors to do all those disgusting
things and act out getting punished for the
nastiness of their ways... for us.
If everybody watching perversions on television
had to actually engage in such activities... well, imagine
how busy all your neighbours would be! If most of these dramas were enacted in real life.
Now, I have to admit, I approach these subjects
a little differently than would most serious academics.
I should state my biases.
I am an admitted Sado-Masochist. I enjoy spanking and being spanked - whipping and being whipped - giving orders and receiving them. And that's not all!
I also admit being a Christian, although I have my lapses.(For which I am quite sure I deserve to be punished!)
It`s a bit of a gag, but I am quite serious. I can imagine TWO GOOD REASONS TO GET ON MY KNEES: (1) To pray to the One Who Is Creating Us; (2) to kneel before a woman, while I`m performing all kinds of oral favours upon her...
and at the same time, begging to do some more.
There is a rift in the midst of the human psyche -
we are split in an ungainly fashion between the spirit
and the flesh.
This SPLIT I take very seriously, because I am quite certain that this great divide within us causes untold
human misery. And there`s nothing funny about this
psychological madness.
However, there`s lots of room for humour here also.
Just as much as we are in need of spiritual absolution and forgiveness - just as much as we are in need of unblocked, orgasm without repression - so we are in need of a good laugh, also!
I damn well need a good laugh, so be warned. Please expect me to get as much hilarity out of this situation
as it deserves!
This is the scholastic approach I intend to take -
I`m going to discuss some matters seriously and I
intend to tell you a bunch of funny stories.
